Our weddings on Crete
Gemini Music has already played several weddings on Crete. Two of them: Villa Amphi near Rethymno: a wedding in the villa's garden, overlooking the Bay of Rethymno. An agrotourismo near Chania: another wedding we played. An agrotourismo is a working rural estate that also hosts and caters for guests. For you as a couple, that means booking wedding musicians who already know the travel, the coordination with venue and planner, and the running order of a wedding day on Crete from their own experience.
Crete as a wedding island
Crete is big enough that the choice of region shapes the character of a wedding. In the west lie Chania with its Venetian harbour and Rethymno with its old town; inland, olive groves, villages and the foothills of the White Mountains begin. Heraklion, the largest city on the island, sits in the centre. In the east, in the Lasithi region, the area around Elounda and the Gulf of Mirabello is known for its coastal hotels. The venue types are just as varied: private villas, agrotourismo estates inland, hotels and venues right by the sea, olive groves for an open-air celebration, and village churches and chapels for the ceremony. A wedding day often combines several of them — the ceremony in a chapel, aperitif and dinner at a villa or a country estate, then the party.
Logistics & travel
Crete has two main airports: Chania (CHQ) in the west and Heraklion (HER) in the centre. Which one suits you best depends on where your venue is — usually Chania for the Chania area, and Heraklion for Heraklion, the centre and the east; Rethymno lies in between. Distances on the island are longer than the map suggests, so we plan driving times between airport, accommodation and venue from the start. Our backline, in-ear monitoring and our own FOH sound engineer travel with us or are coordinated in advance. PA and lighting are coordinated with the venue and your wedding planner; on request we bring the complete system, priced transparently in the quote. Access, power supply, setup time and any venue rules for outdoor music are clarified in advance. On the season: July and August are very hot during the day — ceremony and aperitif work better in the late afternoon, with the party in the evening. May and June, as well as September and October, are especially popular with many couples.
Weddings in English and German
Couples from many countries get married on Crete, and guest lists are often international. We host and accompany weddings in English and in German — announcements, programme moments and the coordination with your wedding party and suppliers happen in the language your guests understand. The repertoire follows the mix of the crowd: international classics, current hits and songs that bring several generations onto the dance floor. From a pool of 30 to 50 artists, we put together the live band for your wedding — from a duo for the aperitif to the full party band.
The day in phases
A wedding stretches over many hours, and each phase needs different music. That is why our wedding entertainment accompanies the day in phases: Aperitif: acoustic and light, while guests arrive after the ceremony and the light softens. Dinner: background music that carries conversation instead of drowning it out — volume and selection are matched to the table. Party: after dinner, the full programme that fills the dance floor. Line-up, positioning and volume change between the phases. We build the schedule together with you, your planner and the venue — including speeches, cake cutting and the first dance.
